JKX established operations in Bulgaria in 2005 by farming into two onshore exploration permits, B Golitza and B1 Golitza, in eastern Bulgaria. The blocks cover 3,355sq.km in the east of the country.

After disappointing exploration well results, JKX and its co-venturers believe they can integrate this information with the 3D seismic to high grade further exploration targets within the Avren formation.
