The Ignatovskoye field lies in the centre of the Novo-Nickolaevskoye complex and was the first field to be developed by JKX. 

Evaluation of two additional structural trends continues, one to the west and one to the south-west of the main field.  The main field is an uplifted fault block containing Devonian sandstone and overlaying Carboniferous Tournasian sandstone and limestone.  On top of that is a Carbonate reef build-up of Visean age.

Black oil is found in the Devonian sandstone and lower parts of  the Tournasian and Visean reservoirs.  The oil is overlain by a rich condensate baring gas cap and the Visean channels can therefore be oil or gas bearing.
